At Construction Skills College (TradeTeacher), our carpentry courses in the UK are designed for beginners, career changers and tradespeople who want practical carpentry and joinery skills you can use in the real world. The aim of our intensive courses is to teach you the skills needed to be able to compete jobs such as build stud walls, install door casing, hang doors (in new and older misshaped door frames), lay laminate flooring, install skirting and architrave, build a cabinet and complete repair work. These are all popular carpentry jobs that you can complete as a carpentry in the UK after the course. Training is hands-on, and taught by experienced carpenters/joiners, so you build confidence doing tasks you’ll face on real jobs.

If you’ve never done carpentry before, we start from the basics — tools, safety, measuring, marking out, cutting and fixing — so you can complete projects confidently with a professional-looking result.

Prices are shown on each individual carpentry course page. To secure your place, we normally ask for a £150 deposit, with the remaining balance due four weeks before your course start date.
Carl is a highly experienced carpenter and joiner with over 30 years’ experience working in the construction industry.
He began his career with a traditional apprenticeship, working in a joinery workshop, and achieved his Advanced Craft Certificate in Machine Woodworking (1990). During this time, Carl developed strong foundations in precision woodworking and joinery.
For over 15 years, Carl worked in workshops manufacturing high-quality joinery, including doors, windows, staircases, and fitted wardrobes, before progressing into site-based work fitting joinery on real construction projects.
Carl later became self-employed and continues to run his own carpentry business today. His work covers a wide range of domestic and commercial projects, including renovations, new-build extensions, and loft conversions. His hands-on experience includes stud wall construction, door and window installation, cut roofs, and general site carpentry.
Carl has been teaching carpentry courses at Construction Skills College for the past two years alongside running his own business. This ensures the techniques and methods he teaches are current, practical, and based on real-world site conditions — not just classroom theory.
Learners benefit from Carl’s clear, practical teaching style and his focus on how carpentry work is actually carried out on site. He encourages questions throughout the course and supports learners in building the confidence and competence needed to complete work to a professional standard.

I would recommend this course to others because of the way in which the course is delivered. A relaxed yet professional manner that gets the key learning points across in a simple yet effective way. I felt the most interesting part of the course was the door and frame installation, learning how to shim out the door frame to reduce the amount of work needed on the door was insightful. What I like about the college is it’s great to get hands on immediately with minimal classroom time. All of the tasks followed logically. The college is an excellent facility. I have already completed plumbing and carpentry and will return for kitchen fitting. All under one roof. I found hanging a door most useful. It is very a very useful way for beginners to learn the trade and have the confidence to try when previous you might not have. Learning how to use all the different tools correctly and the different types of tools for different jobs. Fitting wood floor was really useful and the tips for doing the skirting.
