After qualifying, Tony became self-employed and worked on projects ranging from private housing developments and shopping centres to luxury apartments and high-value residential builds. Following an injury in 2000, he became a Bricklaying Trade Instructor with HM Prison Service, developing a clear, structured teaching approach.
Since 2015, Tony has been teaching bricklaying at Construction Skills College while continuing site work when not delivering training. His teaching is grounded in real-world site standards and focuses on correct methods, accuracy and professional finish.

“I would recommend the course to others, very useful skill to learn and worth every single penny. What I like about the college is skilled, helpful and experienced tutors with plenty of resources to practise with. The most useful and interesting part of the course for me was building a cavity wall, garden wall and decorative panel.”
P Gruung, February 2026
“I would recommend this course to others, it opens up lots of future opportunities and great life skills to save money, great investment. What I like about the college is it’s easy to locate, the tutors go above and beyond to answer questions and give advice where possible. The most interesting useful parts of the training for me was learning the technical aspects of setting out to building foundations, costing jobs correctly, correct gauge and working measurements, and use of tools efficiently. Really enjoyed this 10 days and can’t appreciate it enough. Thank you, Tony and team.”
L Dickson, February 2026
“I would recommend this course to others, it’s a good course, especially if you have never picked up a trowel and a good stepping stone in your career. The most useful part of the training for me was learning how to build garden walls and cavity walls with a window or door frame.”
Anon, February 2026
“What I like about the college is everything seems to be designed to be as practical and helpful as possible. No messing around.”
T Hughes, February 2026
“I would recommend this course to others, all round facilities here at Construction Skills College Limited, plumbing, plastering, brickwork, electrical, and more, fantastic! I have learnt the correct process from start to finish and can now build a wall, corner, cavity wall etc.”
P Stigwood, 10 Day Bricklaying Course, January 2026
“Great courses throughout and Tony the instructor was superb, always happy to encourage, teach and help out. What I like about the college is the good atmosphere throughout and all the instructors are encouraging and engaging, good environment for learning. The most interesting and useful part of the course for me was the whole course, having never laid bricks previously to gaining the skill level to have the confidence to take on small bricklaying tasks.”
A Waith, 10 Day Bricklaying Course, January 2026
“I would recommend this course to others because you learn the fundamentals and work on them. The tutor and college are great. The most useful part of the training for me was learning the basics and fundamentals of bricklaying, including levelling, gauge, pointing and measurements. It looks simple from outside, but it is more than just putting one brick on top of another. What I like about the college is that it is well organised and all tutors are outstanding, friendly and helpful.”
